Fatal Pause
"Often the first thing you see of a mule deer is its bright rump; the rest of the animal blends remarkably well into the dry hills. That patch of white is usually the last thing you see as the animal flees over a rise or into a canyon. But sometimes, a big mule buck pauses just before disappearing over the horizon, looking back to see if he's been pursued. He will be far out of bow hunting range, but the pause occasionally gives the hunter armed with a high powered rifle a last chance. No matter the outcome, it's a memorable sight."
